.22 fac 30FTLB - 16GN vs 18GN

Postby salop sniper » 04 Jun 2014, 16:53

Folks,

I run my FAC air on 16gn JSB with good results but I see a few folk using 18gn.

Whats the pros and cons of 18gn over 16gn ? I cant see much if any real difference, but have ordered a tin to try them out.

I'm using them in my Ripley AR5s/23" barrel which I've set at 1000 FPS; trajectory is very flat and they are a little more resistant to wind drift than the 16 grainers, I like them. Effectively similar to my rimfire MV at 1080 FPS. I find Daystate heavies to be the same. I had a fluke shot recently, two rabbits, one shot, first time with an air rifle. ;)
As for the cons, I don't have any but I can easily adjust the MV on the Ripley to whatever I need.

I found the 18grn to be a little bit loopy. My Air Ranger runs perfectly at around 920fps with 15grn Rangemaster or the 14grn Accupell clone.
If I have an opinion it is because I have researched it or due to life experience. It might not be the same as yours but have you done the above?

I have tried both. The 18gr group better in mine.
