Pellet Skirt Shaper?

Postby cdaley » 09 Feb 2017, 19:30

Does anyone have a hand tool with the right size round nose or something similar to try to shape the pellet skirts a little better? I am running the 13.4 grain JSB's (22 cal) and they seem to be the most accurate, so I bought a bunch of them. Although they seem to be the most accurate pellets I could find, I gotta think they might be even better if the skirts were less deformed.

I've never heard of such a device Chris, I would perhaps guess that air blast expands the soft lead into the rifling.
Sorry I can't help, maybe a pellet sizer with a plug cast to fit an undamaged skirt may help?

I've been using the tip of a plastic ball point pen to reshape the skirts on .22 pellets with good success.

ag101 - by "good success" do you mean you have seen some accuracy improvement?

@cdaley - I haven't done any kind of testing. If I find a pellet skirt that's visibly out-of-round, the pen tip just makes an easy, field expedient tool to reshape it.
