Hawke or MTC ?

Postby woto » 24 Mar 2014, 19:14

Hi Guys

i am getting a Mk4 and i am in two minds whether to change my scope I have a Hawke Panorama EV 3-9x50 AO what I like and get on with but I have seen the MTC Mamba lite 3x12x44, is it worth changing to the MTC ? I do like the side focus and the ret on the MTC not to bothered about the IR as only used it a couple of times, it's just that I am thinking new rifle new scope. has anyone compared these two scopes

Hi Spider1V

It's mainly for pigeons and rats, I do like a bit of targeting as it's good practice, didn't want a heavy scope, that's why I a asking about the mamba lite as they are both a similar weight.

I think you should look thro both, depends on whether you prefer mil dot or Xmas tree reticle
If Xmas tree the mtc has thicker bars than the Hawke from memory

The mamba lite are great scopes i have had 2 in the past but i don't use zoom on scopes due to me doing hft, so i got the viper's 10x44 scopes instead.

however i would check out a few scopes off different manufacture's and see what suits you the best.

I have the following scopes from both:
Hawke Panorama 1/2 Mildot
Hawke Sidewinder SR Pro
MTC Mamba SCB

I would say Hawke have the better scope and optics but I do like the SCB reticule very closely followed by the half mil dot of the Hawke.
I love my sidewinder for use, build and optics but am not loving the SR Pro ret so much. I will give it another chance but will likely look to swap it for a sidewinder with half mil dot !

I have both and prefer the Mamba lite. It's 20g compared to the 27 of the airmox 30 SF means the airmax is about 33% heavier. My favorite scope of all though is my Leopold VX-III target. Tons of light, great optics and 12g. My Wolverine and Wolf don't need any more weight for hunting. Of a bench, doesn't matter.
